The Cayman Islands is famous for its long beautiful beaches, stingrays and snorkeling. Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman takes up a good part of the west side of the island and is a popular place for people to stay. If you’re not staying directly on Seven Mile Beach, there are a few public access areas that are great to visit. Cemetery Beach is located near the north part of the beach and the other you’ll find towards the middle: Governors Beach Grand Cayman.
All the beaches on Grand Cayman are open to the public and there are many ‘beach access’ sidewalks and roads. While there are definitely sidewalks and access points around the resorts, the designated areas are easy for those who want to park nearby and have a quiet spot in the sand.

How to Get to Governors Beach
Governors Beach in Grand Cayman is located towards the center of Seven Mile Beach on the west coast of the island. From the airport, it’s about a 15 minute drive up the coast. If you don’t have a rental car, you can grab a quick taxi or even hop on one of the local buses. Buses for WB1 and WB2 leave every couple of minutes and both have a stop at the Governor’s Residence.
If you haven’t guessed it yet, Governors Beach is right next to the Governor’s house. There’s a white fence in the parking area and along the beach that block it off.
Parking:
There’s a parking area on the beach side right next to the Governor’s house. There are plenty of spaces and you probably won’t have any issues parking since this is a less crowded spot.
Facilities:
In terms of facilities, you won’t find much here except for the bare minimum. There are a couple of picnic tables and a grill up by the parking lot that are under the shade of some trees. There’s also a bench and trash cans, but that’s about the extent. You can also find a beach walkway on the sand leading down to the water.
Governors Beach Grand Cayman
Since we weren’t staying on Seven Mile Beach (we were up near Rum Point), going to some of the public access points were appealing to us so we could park right next to the beach. Being one of the top things to do in Grand Cayman, we definitely wanted to check out different areas of it. Governors Beach is about half way along the main road and easy to pull in.
There’s a wider beach area at this section with lots of room to spread out. You can also take the beach walkway down to the water so you don’t burn your feet. There’s a little bit of shade here but it’s all up near the parking lot, so if you want to be by the water, you’ll be in direct sun.
The water was pretty with some seaweed on the sand. If you don’t want to sit directly in front of the Governor’s house, you can walk down the beach a little bit. It was a bit busier here than at Cemetery Beach–there was a boat parked up on the sand and some kite surfers out and about. But still a quieter section of sand to relax at.
Good For:
People who want a quieter, but beautiful section of the beach and who want to park nearby. People who like wind surfing.
